Floor tiles in the corridor

Floor tiles in the corridor

If you visit your friends, about half will have linoleum on the floor in the corridor, and the second half will have laminate. And only a few you will find tiles. Until recently, almost all rooms where there is high traffic and frequent pollution have been tiled. With the advent of modern coatings, we switched to the fashion wave without hesitation. But the tile has remained in many houses, and just the largest and most beautifully furnished. Probably, the opinion about the flooring in a modern home is somewhat inspired by advertising, therefore, we will try to return the tile to its former glory, and consider the methods of its installation.

How to choose tiles for the corridor?

In the salon you will be offered many options from cheap to elite. Do not rush to go to extremes and take the first one you like. There are several requirements, or characteristics, that will definitely affect the quality of the coating and its durability. In order for the floor tiling in the corridor to meet your expectations, we will ask the consultant about the following points:

  • you can’t save on the durability of floor tiles, although its class affects the price (obviously, you will have to enter the corridor from the street with heels, sometimes put heavy things that scratch the surface);
  • the maximum class of resistance to chemical agents for cleaning surfaces is A and AA, and again we are looking for the highest possible indicator so that there are no problems with cleaning (of course, you can always lay a rug or lay a track, but sometimes even such methods do not save you from really strong pollution, and we must not forget about the autumn-winter period with slush);
  • and finally, let’s pay attention to the degree of moisture absorption (although the tile itself almost does not absorb moisture, it is still worth choosing the minimum absorption coefficient).

Now let’s talk about the type of tile. To finish the floor with tiles in the corridor, tiles and porcelain stoneware are used. Both types have their pros and cons. As for porcelain stoneware, it undoubtedly beats all records in terms of wear resistance. Even guests in heels will not damage the floor by dancing or actively moving on it. But the tile cannot boast of such abilities, since all the chips will sooner or later reveal themselves. Don’t forget about home security. The tile after wet cleaning will remain slippery for some time. But do not rush to abandon it: if you choose from the most expensive options, then it will be on a par with porcelain stoneware. True, and its price will be many times higher.

hallway floor design

For the corridor, two laying methods are usually used: in a straight line, or diagonally. Laying by the direct method is much easier, but the diagonal option visually expands the room, which is more suitable for narrow and long hallways.

It is more difficult to lay out the diagonal, and more material will have to be purchased. But it is she who is suitable for many design techniques. For example, you can combine tiles in the hallway and laminate in rooms of a similar shade. Then visually you get a smooth transition, namely, it will allow you to visually expand the boundaries of the corridor and make it more spacious.

For small spaces, a design with two colors of tiles is well suited, it will decorate the floor, but will not take away valuable meters in the corridor. When you have a lot of space, you can afford a clear ornament, even a certain composition on the floor. Sometimes floor tiles in the corridor are laid only in the area of \u200b\u200bthe door, then a laminate or parquet board is used. In a word, if you wish, any stylistic solutions are available to you, and with the right choice of the type of tile, durability is also possible.
