2 Buy an automatic irrigation system

The easiest way to leave plants at home and not worry about their safety is to use automatic watering systems. There are automated devices that water on a timer, as well as just containers that can dose out water.

Depending on the functionality, such accessories can cost differently. Devices will definitely be needed for those who are often away from home. If you only go away a few times a year, you can get by with homemade tools.

3 Use homemade automatic watering

Irrigation system can be done independently. To do this, you will need strips of fabric that absorbs moisture well. One end of the strip is usually placed in a pot closer to the roots of the plant and sprinkled with earth, the other — in a container of water. The main thing is that the latter should be higher than the pot, then moisture will tend to the plant from top to bottom along the wick. If you have a large flower, then run several strips to it, as one will not cope with watering.

Another variation of watering with cloth flaps is to stretch a homemade tourniquet through the pot’s drainage hole. One part of it should remain next to the roots under the ground, the other should be under the pot. Place the latter over a container in which water is located. It is important that the strip of cloth is dipped into the liquid.

four Build watering from a bottle

The following method of watering is similar in working with purchased containers that dispense water in a dosed manner. For it you will need a plastic bottle: for small plants — 0.5 liters, for large pots you can take a liter. Poke a few small holes in the top of the container with a needle, then pour water into it and screw the lid on carefully. On the eve of departure, water the plant well, then quickly turn the bottle over and stick it with a cork into the ground, dig a little. The holes made should not be located next to the roots, otherwise you can flood them. The water will slowly come out of the bottle and moisten the ground.

four Put the pots in the water

Collect all the plants in the house in one place. If there are few of them, you can use a small container. Put a towel inside that you don’t mind getting dirty, and also pour some water: the depth should not exceed a couple of centimeters. Then put pots in the container that have a drainage hole. Through it, the soil itself will draw the right amount of moisture.

If there are a lot of plants, then instead of a container, you can use a bath or shower. The scheme is the same: plug the drain, pour some water and put a towel on. Put the pots out of him. However, it should be borne in mind that this option may not be suitable for sun-loving colors, since the bathroom is usually dark, especially if you are leaving for a long time.

5 Use plastic bags

For this method, you will need plastic bags of different sizes. For the largest flowers, trash bags can be used. The scheme is simple: water the plants well, and many additionally wrap the pots with wet newspapers or other material that absorbs moisture well. Then put a bag over the flower so that the leaves do not get crushed. So you will create a greenhouse inside: when the water begins to evaporate, it will be on the walls of the bag and fall inside the flower.

Place plants wrapped in polyethylene on a surface that is not exposed to sunlight, otherwise they will heat the bag, which will not benefit the flowers. Instead of bags, many gardeners use large plastic bottles, but they will not fit all plants.
