Planning

There are no uniform standards and requirements for internal organization; you can assemble a cabinet for yourself. Its configuration is determined by the size of the room; type of room — the filling of the closet in the bedroom and in the corridor will be different; budget; quantity and type of things.

The latter will be the determining factor, since when planning the interior of the cabinet, you need to build on exactly what you plan to store there. For outerwear, suits, casual T-shirts and trousers, you will need different storage systems.

Despite the uniqueness of each case, the internals are always assembled from a set of elements.

What elements can be used

• Shelves for clothes or shoes.
• Rods for standard hangers.
• Trouser bars.

All of them or only a part can be used, depending on the lifestyle of the owners and the size of the product.

Internal elements can be made of metal, wood, MDF or chipboard, plastic. When choosing a material, it is important to consider not only the desired design and budget, but also the weight of the things that will be stored in the closet. Fragile plastic shelves are not suitable for heavy fabrics and outerwear, and it is not necessary to specially make a reinforced metal frame for a light everyday wardrobe.

Storage zoning

Regardless of the configuration, any product inside is divided into conditional horizontal zones. As a rule, there are three of them.

• The lower zone is a compartment located below the level of the eyes and the outstretched arm. Usually reserved for the placement of shoes, bed linen (in the bedroom or nursery), suitcases, bags or sports equipment. Here you can store any heavy things, the weight of which cannot withstand the upper tier. It is not very convenient to place standard shelves for things in this area, because you will have to constantly bend over them, so drawers and pull-out baskets are suitable for filling.
• The middle is the main part of any cabinet. Everything that is at eye level and easy to reach gets here. Therefore, hangers, shelves and hanging organizers for clothes and linen are placed in the middle part, which are used constantly. They should always be easily accessible, this area should be well lit.
• Upper — the space remaining at the top is allocated for mezzanine shelves, which may not be as easy to reach as to things in the middle zone. Most often, this part is used to accommodate seasonal clothes, spare sets of linen, hats and everything that is rarely worn and, accordingly, gets.

Filling options

2 doors

The most compact option that is suitable for a small bedroom, nursery or hallway. The standard width is from 100 to 170 cm. Due to the modest dimensions, the filling of the wardrobe for 2 doors must be thought out in such a way as to accommodate everything you need.

The main elements will be shelves, drawers and a crossbar for hangers.

Ready combinations

• 5-6 vertical shelves, 1-2 drawers, 1 bar.
• 5-6 shelves vertically, 4 drawers, 1 rod.
• 6-7 shelves vertically, 1 rod.
• 3-4 shelves vertically, 1 rod, one place for large equipment or suitcases.

In the storage area on hangers, you can place a vertical hanging organizer. Make one of the shelves at the top — you can keep hats, bed linen and other non-daily items there.

3 doors

The width of three-door models varies from 180 to 250 cm. The number of possible sections increases significantly. The hanger area is usually located in the center, and it is surrounded by shelves and drawers. Filling for a wardrobe with a width of 2 meters or a little more can be assembled from the following combinations.

Possible combinations

• 7-9 shelves vertically, 2-3 crossbars.
• 10-12 vertical shelves, 2-4 drawers, 1 crossbar.

Filling wardrobe for 4 doors

This is the most capacious model, which in its functionality is in no way inferior to the dressing room. Length — from 250 to 400 cm. The filling of a wardrobe with a width of 3 meters may consist of the following elements.

Ready solutions

• 7-9 vertical shelves, 4 drawers, 2-3 rods.
• 12-14 vertical shelves, 2-3 rods.
• 8-10 vertical shelves, 3 drawers, 2-3 rods.

One of the crossbars can be given over to street clothes, as well as a special hanger for trousers. Shelves can be of any width, be sure to place 1-2 in the upper part to store things that are out of date in the current season. Retractable systems are suitable for underwear, small items and accessories.

Angular

The shape of such furniture is L-shaped, triangular or trapezoidal. Corner systems are good because they allow you to rationally use all the available space, which is especially important for small rooms. The peculiarity of their design also affects the internal filling of the corner wardrobe in the bedroom or corridor, since you need to somehow fill in uncomfortable areas at the junction of the sides.

How to fill the corner

• Place special triangular shelves along the vertical corner — they are suitable for small accessories, for example, underwear, belts, jewelry, etc.
• Give this space for storage of vertical objects: umbrellas, skis, fishing rods. This option is most often used in the corridor.
• Hang a rounded rod and coat hanger for compact products or accessories.

Ideas for different rooms

Bedroom

All clothes are stored in the bedroom, as well as towels, bedding sets, spare blankets and pillows. When planning the internal filling of the built-in wardrobe in the bedroom, this must be taken into account and a place should be laid for voluminous things — for example, a duvet will not fit on a standard shelf.

Also, if possible, it is worth organizing a separate place for storing everything necessary for caring for clothes, perhaps for an iron, ironing board or equipment that has nowhere else to store. Any model is suitable in size: from the most compact 100 cm wide to a three-meter design for 4 doors — depending on the area of ​​​​the room.

Children’s

A compartment in a nursery is usually placed for growth. Even if the child is still small and does not have many things, you can store bed linen, towels, various accessories and even toys inside.

When planning the internal filling of the wardrobe in the bedroom for a child, it is important to take into account the fundamental point — whether you want the small owner of the room to have access to things or not. Most likely, sooner or later, the baby will be able to open the doors, so if you plan to store toys inside with small parts that cannot be taken unattended, place them at the top. If, on the contrary, you are accustoming a child to independence and order, let all his things be freely available in the lower compartment.

Hallway

In the corridor, any storage system essentially replaces the pantry. What to consider?

• There will be a minimum of everyday things, for the most part only outerwear — it is heavy and voluminous, so the depth of the body should be sufficient to be placed on the shoulders, and the crossbar should withstand the weight of fur coats and coats.
• Instead of small, shallow shelves, it is better to make large compartments, since suitcases, bags, sports equipment, and, possibly, large appliances, such as a washing machine or vacuum cleaner, will be stored here.
• Consider enough space for shoes. Drawers, open shelves or a shoe rack built into the design are suitable. Nearby it is desirable to organize a small area for storing shoe care products.

A checklist to help fit everything

To correctly plan the filling of the built-in wardrobe, follow a simple plan.

1. Compare desires and possibilities — the dimensions of the structure that you would like, and the dimensions of the room. Decide where the product will be located, what shape it will be and with how many doors.
2. Review the clothes that will be stored in the closet. Make a detailed list: how many pairs of shoes you have and which ones, how many dresses, skirts, trouser suits, coats, light jackets, underwear, etc. The same for accessories, travel bags and other items that will need to be placed.
3. In the finished list, divide things by season. Estimate how many hangers you will need for each, as well as how much space to allocate for the off-season.
4. In the same way, calculate what you have stored in piles, for which you will need separate zones. Remember that underwear is best stored in closed drawers, the same goes for items made of delicate fabrics. For belts, watches and jewelry, you will also need a pull-out area with dividers.
5. Consider shoe storage. It is most convenient to keep it in plain sight, but if this is not possible, select a section for a shoe rack or boxes (it is better to sign them so that the search for the right pair does not turn into an hour-long quest).
6. When all the lists are made, move on to the plan. The design drawing can be drawn in cells. When planning sections, consider the general rules of ergonomics and your preferences, and it is also desirable that they match the number of doors. It should be convenient to reach each element of the middle part with your hand without any extra effort.
7. If you are planning a male and female part, clearly distinguish between them so that there is no confusion and disorder. It is desirable that each half has at least a small section for hangers.
8. For a closet in the hallway, you should come up with a high section where you can put household items: at least a vacuum cleaner. If it is not possible to store an iron and an ironing board in the bedroom, they will fit in the same place: the iron can be hung on the wall of the cabinet by the holder.
