In early December, the Pantone Color Institute identified two colors for 2021. These are Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, gray and yellow. The colors of the year have certain codes by which they can be found in the palette. So, for gray — 17-5104, and for yellow — 13-0647.
We have collected interiors that are decorated in gray-yellow shades (not necessarily the ones that Pantone recommends, they may be of a different saturation). But still, these examples demonstrate how successfully gray and yellow are combined in the interior, complementing each other. Moreover, they are universal — they can be used in different rooms.
Living rooms
The most obvious way to decorate the center room in the house is with a gray base and yellow shades. Walls and large objects in the room, such as a sofa, rise under the «base». Accents can be both small and large. For example, yellow decorative pillows, blankets, posters. A major accent will be yellow pieces of furniture — armchairs or the same sofa against the background of gray walls.
A bold trick is to paint the walls yellow. But it’s still not worth decorating all surfaces with an active color — your eyes will quickly get tired. An accent wall or niche will suffice.
It should be noted that only two tones are rarely found in interiors. They are diluted with achromatic shades: black, white, as well as tree flowers or greenery. And rightly so — it is enough to “fix” the main color combination in the foreground so that it attracts attention. And let the rest of the tones «background».

The combination of colors in the interior of the living room: how to choose the shades yourself and not make a mistake
Bedrooms
The bedroom is considered the quietest place in the house, and the interior there should be appropriate. Therefore, the obvious combination of gray and yellow also works here: a neutral base and bright accents. Gray walls and furniture can be diluted with decorative pillows and blankets on the bed, linens with a yellow pattern, curtains. Choosing yellow as the main shade is a solution for the brave. If you classify yourself as such, you should pay attention to dusty yellow tones. And combine the color of the walls with the gray upholstery of the bed. Illuminating yellow, Pantone’s Color of the Year, is still quite active.

Kitchens
Gray kitchens are not uncommon in residential interiors. But yellow will add brightness and life to a neutral space. If the kitchen set is gray, yellow can be used in decor elements, on a kitchen apron, choose dishes in this shade and place them on open shelves, support them with textiles.
A yellow tint should not always be used “on the forehead”. In the gallery you can find an example of a gray kitchen set and an apron with a pattern of yellow lemons. A fun and memorable combination. There is also an example of a gray kitchen and a bright yellow window frame and slopes.
In such combinations, gray is found in different shades: from light to dark, almost black. The latter are used in more brutal interiors.
Yellow kitchen sets are a rare choice, but that’s why it’s noticeable and interesting. In this case, gray can become a background in the form of walls or an addition in the form of a kitchen apron or countertop.

Baby
The child’s room can be decorated in gray — and let it not confuse the parent, it does not seem boring or faded. Just yellow accents in the form of the same decor or textiles can dilute the gray base. If necessary, they can be changed as the child desires and his hobbies change.

Bathrooms and toilets
Gray is the trending color for the bathroom. You can use paint in gray shades for walls, porcelain stoneware with a texture like concrete (also gray), like gray marble or just gray tiles — glossy or matte. Yellow in this case will be decor and small items like towels. An «intermediate» color between gray and yellow can be white. It will set off the contrast and calm the design a little.
But yellow trim can also be used — you get a sunny and radiant interior that will literally awaken. In the bathroom, it is often recommended to use bright colors, as they do not spend much time in this room. Another way to use gray and yellow in large quantities is to combine tiles in these shades in the bathroom. See examples for inspiration.
