Why are these stains difficult to remove?

The concept of «engine oil» is quite broad. It includes different compositions. These are dark mastics for lubricating engines, and light oily liquids for lubricating household mechanisms, and other solid and liquid lubricants. They must contain petroleum products. However, they may be different. Depending on this, three types of chemicals are distinguished.

• Synthetic. Their basis is hydrocarbons obtained synthetically during the distillation of various petroleum products.
• Semi-synthetic. The composition of the material — no more than 20% synthetics.
• Mineral. They are based on refined and refined oil.

Thus, in all engine oils there is a certain amount of petroleum products. They are highly stable, quickly eaten into textiles. That is why the structure of pollution is difficult to destroy. This requires strong alkalis or solvents.

Rules for removing oil and oil contaminants

We will analyze simple rules that will help get rid of an oil stain.

• You need to start processing the mark immediately after its discovery. It is good if pollution can be noticed immediately. Then it can be removed with any fat-dissolving agent.

These are easy-to-use formulations that are in any home. They are especially good for fresh dirt, they are unlikely to help against stubborn old marks. But it’s worth trying.

1. Washing powder

Any preparation will do, except those that contain whitening additives. However, they are also suitable for white fabrics. A thick gruel is prepared from the powder; for this, the granules are stirred with boiling water. The resulting mixture is rubbed on the contaminated area, left in this form for 5-10 minutes. After that, they put the thing in a bag and send it to the microwave. Process it there for 3-4 minutes at high power. Then the clothes are put into the drum of the automatic machine and washed in the usual way.

2.WD-40

A universal lubricant known to all motorists will do an excellent job of dissolving oil pollution. Before processing, you must make sure that the composition does not dissolve the fabric dye. After that, «WD-40» is abundantly applied to the stain, wait 2-3 minutes, carefully remove the liquid with a rag or cotton wool. 3. Gasoline

4. Laundry soap

5. Dish liquid

You can take a gel or liquid for dishes, any of the preparations will do, but highly concentrated mixtures such as Fairy, Aosa, etc. work better. This is a good option than removing machine oil from trousers or other things. Especially effective against fresh marks. The gel is applied directly to the contaminated area, a rag or sponge is taken and the composition is rubbed into the textile. Periodically rinsed under running tap and rubbed again. 6. Turpentine plus ammonia

8. Iron

The essence of the technique is that the heated oily liquid is easily absorbed into porous surfaces. Place two paper or soft cloth napkins under the stain from engine oil and on it. They put a heated iron on top, hold it in this position for 10-12 seconds, and remove it. Liquid dirt will begin to soak into the wipes. Continue the procedure until the paper or cloth is clean. After that, the remaining contamination is washed off with soap.

Household chemicals

Laundry stain removers that are customary for housewives are not designed to remove oil and oil stains. You can try to use drugs with active oxygen, but the effect of them is not guaranteed. They can help wash a very fresh mark, they are useless for old and stubborn ones. For such cases, there is a group of chemicals produced specifically for oil marks. Let’s list some of the brands.

Not all materials respond equally to processing. Therefore, when choosing a product that is going to remove spots, you need to take into account the composition and density of textiles. Synthetics, artificial and mixed materials can be completely spoiled by aggressive chemistry. It is able to partially dissolve or discolor their fibers. Dense rough materials can withstand intensive processing and harsh chemicals quite well. Jeans, thick raincoat fabric, tarpaulin and the like can be cleaned with alkaline preparations, nefras, gasoline. «Shown» to them and any special stain removers.
