Dressing room is not a luxury

[ad_1]

Cabinets-a compartment is a wonderful furnishing attribute that ideally solves the problems of storage space in cramped apartments and small houses.

However, any hostess sooner or later realizes that the best option for a private house is the presence of a special room where you can store everything, everything, everything, from jewelry and accessories to outerwear and hats.

Ideally, there should be a window for natural light and a large mirror. And if there is enough space to put also a dressing table.

You say luxury? Not at all, because in the presence of a laconic design in the interior of the house, the once fashionable wardrobes, chests of drawers and a table for “powdering the nose” can turn out to be alien “remnants”.

And even in vintage interiors, worn-out giant wardrobes are not able to accommodate everything.
WARDROBE ROOM
According to their purpose, dressing rooms can be multifunctional and narrower:
  • For outerwear, demi-season shoes, hats and accessories. They are usually placed near the entrance doors. Since these things are seasonal, they are smaller and can be arranged compactly, literally in a large closet or niche.
  • For dresses (in the broad sense of the word), light shoes, accessories, home clothes, bed and underwear. It is possible to install ironing equipment here. The most optimal place is behind the wall of the bedroom. This space needs a lot of space.
  • For bathrobes, slippers, towels. Accordingly, they are placed in the bathroom, usually a small closet with louvered doors.

It is not difficult to equip a wardrobe, a niche or a linen closet, therefore I will dwell in more detail on the second type — a dressing room.

If you want to make it your pride, where you will bring guests (of course, by chance :), then you need to understand that this is essentially a real boutique with all the ensuing consequences: a large area, furniture, lighting, decor.

Another thing is if the dressing room for you is a purely functional room for comfortable storage and changing clothes. Here, metal storage systems with the ability to move elements play the first violin. They consist of vertical racks and hinged elements.

It is difficult to design the “correct” location of things on your own, during operation you will understand what is convenient and what is not, and by selecting it you will be able to find the placement of shelves, boxes, etc. that is comfortable for you.

STANDARD SIZES FOR CLOTHING STORAGE

There can be many functional elements of storage systems, including organizers for accessories, you yourself determine which ones you need the most. But there are elements that must be in the dressing room and they have their standard, time-tested sizes.
The minimum standard depth of the wardrobe is 0.6 m.

The height of the section for «full-length» clothing (long coats, dresses, overalls) is 1.5-1.8 m. One such section should be mandatory, even if at the moment you don’t have long clothes. Below you can arrange boxes with shoes.
A section for shirts, jackets, blouses is made 0.8 — 1 m high.
Mezzanines are located at the height of an outstretched arm (1.9 — 2 m and above). Suitcases, rarely used shoes, sports equipment are stored on the topmost shelves. In order to get to them, they put a folding ladder in the dressing room.

It is better to store knitwear not on hangers (stretched), but on shelves, and in order not to wrinkle, they make a lot of such shelves, and the distance between them is no more than 30 cm, literally for one or two products.

The best material for wardrobe shelves and trays is metal mesh and interlining. They provide ventilation for stored clothing.

CORNER DRESSING ROOM

I will not say that this is a good option, because he will eat part of the living space. However, sometimes you will not find a better solution for an apartment. To make the design look visually light, it is recommended to make it sliding and with translucent walls.

It is possible to use an angular furniture structure as a corner dressing room necessarily from floor to ceiling and to match the walls.

DRESSING ROOM IN THE ATTIC

Since the storage places do not have a great height, the dressing room, equipped under the attic slopes, is the best solution, because you won’t place anything else there. This is the case when the space of the «dead zone» can be used «one hundred percent».

NARROW DRESSING ROOM
If you sacrifice the space of a large heated loggia, then you can also equip a dressing room in it. There are two conditions: cabinets should not cover windows and should have doors so that clothes do not fade. Of course, the windows of the loggia should be provided with blinds to ensure comfort when changing clothes.

However, even inside the house (apartment) you can allocate space for a dressing room, even if it is narrow and long.

DRESSING ROOM IN THE CORRIDOR

Many layouts involve a niche in the corridor, or they are wide enough and can afford to occupy part of the area for floor-to-ceiling cabinet equipment.

60 cm (or a little more) must be subtracted from the width of the corridor, and at the same time at least 120 cm must remain for free passage.

NON-STANDARD DRESSING ROOMS
Non-standard, because you can’t place this in standard nooks, and if you just planned to build a house, then you simply have to dream of a spacious dressing room 🙂
